Octuplets Situation

Ok, I know this is going to be a touchy subject. The octuplets were born to a mother with already 6 children. That part, really doesn't matter, until you get to the part that her prior 6 children aren't living with her, they are with their grandmother. Then, add to it, the mother is collecting food stamps, and disability checks from 3 of her 6 children.

Now to the good part, the octuplets were conceived through invitro fertilization, the same as the prior 6 children.

I know some people will want to shoot me for this, but I don't believe this is right. This mother should not have been allowed to have invitro fertilization in the first place, she couldn't afford the children. She does not work, granted she is going for her masters degree. Why would you want to put yourself through that stress when you are stressed enough as it is with a masters program?

I guess I just don't understand it, I'm sure there are parts of this situation that I don't know, but the basics are there...I just don't agree with it.

Is Inviting Yourself Wrong?

My question of the day is, Is inviting yourself wrong, and or rude?

Why am I asking this question? Because I have had a recurring problem with my in-laws and this issue.

They are constantly showing up unannounced, their daughter calls here and asks if she can come over and spend the night. Also they have shown up and the daughter will ask to stay in front of my daughter.

I think it is totally rude. I have told them and her before that I don't like it, and to wait until they/she is invited.

Why today? I was at work, my mother in law was watching my kids at my house, when my sister in law showed up un announced. Her daughter proceeds to ask if she can stay, then my daughter ends up calling me at work for permission.

I wanted to reach through the phone and wring her (my sister in law's) neck! Not to mention that I wasn't even home!

My answer was obviously no, and I gave my daughter the information to relay, or I could tell them if she was uncomfortable. Nope, she wanted to be a big girl and tell them herself! Yeah!!!

I told her that I was uncomfortable with her being there when I was not. That was how I left it.

What do you guys think?

Opening Doors

The little one just started opening doors. Nothing is safe in this house anymore!

We already have child locks on all the cabinets, and drawers in the kitchen...

Now this means we need to do the same in the bathroom, since that is one of the rooms we kept off limits to her.

It is so much fun raising a baby...just to see all the milestones they make!

Next will be the talking, in sentences!

She can already say, "have a nice day" and "what you doing?". Of course she has single words she says, but it will just be so exciting when she can actually tell us what she wants!

Daughter and Grandmother 2

I will get to see how this story plays out today...

My husband's mother is coming to watch the girls today while I go to work for a couple of hours. I told my daughter that she had better be on her best behavior, and do whatever she tells her.

No ifs ands or buts! I also told her she had better show her the utmost respect and treat her like she would treat her dad's mother. Then I thought better of it, since she lets her get away with murder.

I told her she had better treat her like she treats me!

Glutton For Punishment

Miss Lily Bug, Murphy Brown, Troy(Tyson)(Hans)...
Tyson

Ok, I don't know if any of you know this, but my family are animal lovers. Specifically dogs.

We had a male doberman named Harley. He passed away of DCM 2 years ago on July 4th. He was my husband's best friend. His heart was so broken when it happened, I didn't think he would come out of it. Luckily he did.

The day after Harley died, we found Miss Lily Bug. She is our oldest boxer, and my best friend. Miss Lily is almost as good a dog as Harley was in my husbands eyes. In my eyes, she is. I love her to death...

Then we got Murphy Brown. Murphy is our second boxer, and she is much higher strung than Lily is. Over all, she is a good girl.

Then, my husband decided it was time for another doberman...We looked, and couldn't find one...then when my husband was looking in the swap sheet, he came across an ad, with a phone # he recognized.

It was the couple we had given a doberman to last year. He called, and sure enough the puppies were her litter!

We went over and met all the remaining puppies, he fell in love with one. We brought him home, and are still going through names 4 weeks later!

That is another issue all together, neither one of us can decide on a name for him. I want a nice manly but different name. He wants a really off the wall name....Hans....then it was Tyson, which I thought reminded me of Mike Tyson, the wife beater.

Not a good name for me. Now he has come up with Troy. Needless to say, I can't keep any of the kids, or dogs names straight! I have teased him, saying his name is T-Dog!

Daughter and Grandmother

Another situation is my daughter spending time with my husband's mother.

Every time they are alone together, I end up hearing a story from my husband about how bad she was for his mother.

My daughter is not a bad child, she never has been. I know sometimes, mothers think the best of their children, and don't see the negatives, but I do see the negatives.

My daughter tends to lack common sense, she is book smart, but totally lacks common sense. She drives me up a wall having to repeat things to her all day long.

But, I just don't see my girl being disrespectful to an adult...Which is what I am being told. She has never done this to anyone else to my knowledge.

If my mother in law asks her to clean up her mess on the counter, she will tell her no.

My ass would have been grass if I had even dreamed of saying that to ANY adult!

My husband believes his mother is embellishing the stories a tad as well. So I don't know what to believe here.

Is she rebelling, because she doesn't feel my mother in law is her "real grandma"?

We have always told my daughter that she is extra special because she has so many families now. Two Christmases, birthdays, etc...

Is this another situation of her being a typical 8 year old, or is she really being a brat towards my mother in law?

Life With An 8 Year Old Girl And Her Step-Father

The story starts with me, divorcing the father of my oldest daughter. She is 8 yrs. soon to be 9. We divorced when she was 5.

I met my current husband and married shortly there after. I know many may think this was a horrible thing to do, but it is what it is.

My husband is a very loving, thoughtful person, who adores my daughter. My daughter adores her father, and step father.

There are times though that she just doesn't think. When she leaves to go with my ex, recently, she has not been saying good bye to her step dad.

I don't know what to make of this. Is she just excited to get back with her dad, and doesn't mean it. Or is she purposely neglecting her step dad?

My first guess is, she is an 8 year old who doesn't use her head for anything except her school work, and her PS2. But that doesn't take away the fact that it hurts her step dad.

What do you guys think?

Plane Crash In Buffalo Kills 50

It just sends shivers up my spine...My husband flies nearly every week for business, and with more and more crashes, I get nervous. Continental flight 3407 crashed into a home in Buffalo, NY killing 50.

I am not a nervous person by nature, but this bothers me.

This was close to home also, not that it really matters, but Buffalo is less than 3 hours from me.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. Godspeed.

5 Year Old Finds Oxycontin In Her Pants

It never ceases to amaze me how dumb people can be, and I hate to say it, but this proves how some people aren't fit to reproduce! In Surgoinsville, Tenn. police arrested a man that is accused of stashing painkillers in his 5 year old niece's pants pocket. He is charged with possession of narcotics and reckless endangerment and is scheduled for arraignment Feb. 9.

28-year-old Dickie Lynn Keirsey, who police said lives with the child's family, was arrested.

Girls Basketball Coach Fired After 100-0 Win

Ok, now lets get real here. The coach is fired because
they won 100-0 ?

Yep, you heard/read it right! This is the girls basketball coach at Covenant School, a private Christian school.

Last week on the school's web site, they posted a statement regretting the outcome of the game on Jan. 13th. "It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened. This clearly does not reflect a Christlike and honorable approach to competition," said the statement, signed by Kyle Queal, the headmaster, and board chair Todd Doshier.

The coach's response was this- "In response to the statement posted on The Covenant School Web site, I do not agree with the apology or the notion that the Covenant School girls basketball team should feel embarrassed or ashamed, we played the game as it was meant to be played. My values and my beliefs would not allow me to run up the score on any opponent, and it will not allow me to apologize for a wide-margin victory when my girls played with honor and integrity."

You know what? I agree with the coach. Usually I don't- I am not a big sports fanatic, since I think most of the time, players and coaches take things a bit too seriously and too far...Case in point!

Anyways, isn't basketball a ... game? Isn't it supposed to be about playing the game, having fun and not about who wins or loses- especially when it comes to our children?

The school thinks it is a bad thing that they won???!!! Why are they even involved in sports if this is how they are going to react and behave? If this is how they feel, then they shouldn't be involved!

It is a game, that is the point! To see how well you can play the game, not to see how well you can throw the game, or give up on playing!

What is your opinion?

Coach Stinson Charged With Reckless Homicide

I woke up this morning to a barrage of channels covering this story. Coach Stinson from Louisville, KY is being indicted today on the charge of reckless homicide.

I have read a lot of the comments on the news pages here on the web. Many of the responses are blaming the coach, saying he withheld water, made them practice in 90+ degree weather, not to mention didn't call 911 until 20 minutes after the collapse.

And, to top it all off there was another player that collapsed minutes before Max Gilpin. My view on this is, there should not have been practice at all. It was definitely too hot, in my opinion for these kids to be in their full uniforms, running around for football practice. Football, in my eyes, isn't that important!

My next opinion may tick some people off, but this is how I feel. Where were Max's parents? Better yet, where were all the players parents? If that was my kid, I would have called it off, and if the coach kicked him off the team, so be it. My childs' health is much more important to me than a football game.

Why didn't his parents say,"No, it is too hot to practice today."?! I just don't understand this, isn't it ultimately the parents responsibility to make sure their children are safe?

Yes, the coach probably made some bad judgement calls, but I believe a lot more people did as well, and it was a cumulative result based on many people's actions or non actions.

The school itself could have called off the practice ( the superintendent, or the principal). The parents could have called it off, the players could have used their heads and said no. And yes, I do remember what it was like back in high school, you/I were scared to death to use your/my head to make a logical decision. We thought the teachers/coaches knew it all, and what was best for us, we thought we were invincible!

Obviously teens are not invincible, and hopefully this will be a lesson learned for all involved, unfortunately it is a tragic one.

Melamine Found In US Infant Formula

If you thought you were safe from Melamine contamination in your infant's formula because you live in the U.S. you are dead wrong!

The FDA has found traces of Melamine and cyanuric acid in infant formula manufactured here in the U.S.

They have announced that safe levels are 1 part per million of Melamine in formula. The contaminated samples were found to have less than the threshold the FDA has set. (above)

Members of congress, a national consumer group, and the Illinois attorney general have demanded a national recall, but the FDA has refused, stating there is no evidence of the levels of contamination found in the samples would cause any harm to our babies.

"After saying it made an error in its data, the FDA on Wednesday produced these results: Nestle's Good Start Supreme Infant Formula with Iron had two positive tests for melamine on one sample; Mead Johnson's Infant Formula Powder, Enfamil LIPIL with Iron had three positive tests on one sample for cyanuric acid.

Separately, a third major formula maker, Abbott Laboratories, told the AP that in-house tests had detected trace levels of melamine in its infant formula."

This makes up 90% of the infant formula produced in the U.S.

Does this infuriate you? It certainly does me! I guess it is just another reason to breast feed!

Don't get me wrong, I do believe breast feeding is the best for our babies, but I also understand that not all mothers can breast feed. Myself being one of them! I was able to breast feed my first child, but unfortunately due to new medical circumstances, I was unable to breast feed my second, although I desperately wanted to.

So, I do see both sides of the breast feeding fence so to speak!

Let me know what you think about the Melamine in our U.S. manufactured baby formula!

Melamine And Your Kids

I know this may be a little late, so I apologize. I have been busy with (like everyone else) with work, house work, children, husband, and dogs!

I just opened an email from one of my friends warning me about Melamine in candy. ( I told you I was late!)

Apparently, those little gold wrapped chocolate coins that we loved so much as children, contain Melamine!

So please, everyone, double check your children's halloween candy and make sure none of these chocolate coins are in the reach of our precious babies!

Mother Drives Child To Fatal Gang Fight

I'm sure most of you know by now, that I have no tolerance for stupidity.

This mother definitely falls into my category of stupid.

A 31 year old mother in Long Beach, C.A. drove her child, and his friends to a fatal gang fight with a rival gang.

She has since been convicted of second degree murder for the death of a 13 year old.

At least there is some justice in our Judicial System!
