Melamine Found In US Infant Formula

If you thought you were safe from Melamine contamination in your infant's formula because you live in the U.S. you are dead wrong!

The FDA has found traces of Melamine and cyanuric acid in infant formula manufactured here in the U.S.

They have announced that safe levels are 1 part per million of Melamine in formula. The contaminated samples were found to have less than the threshold the FDA has set. (above)

Members of congress, a national consumer group, and the Illinois attorney general have demanded a national recall, but the FDA has refused, stating there is no evidence of the levels of contamination found in the samples would cause any harm to our babies.

"After saying it made an error in its data, the FDA on Wednesday produced these results: Nestle's Good Start Supreme Infant Formula with Iron had two positive tests for melamine on one sample; Mead Johnson's Infant Formula Powder, Enfamil LIPIL with Iron had three positive tests on one sample for cyanuric acid.

Separately, a third major formula maker, Abbott Laboratories, told the AP that in-house tests had detected trace levels of melamine in its infant formula."

This makes up 90% of the infant formula produced in the U.S.

Does this infuriate you? It certainly does me! I guess it is just another reason to breast feed!

Don't get me wrong, I do believe breast feeding is the best for our babies, but I also understand that not all mothers can breast feed. Myself being one of them! I was able to breast feed my first child, but unfortunately due to new medical circumstances, I was unable to breast feed my second, although I desperately wanted to.

So, I do see both sides of the breast feeding fence so to speak!

Let me know what you think about the Melamine in our U.S. manufactured baby formula!

I think it's horrible that little babies have to be exposed to something that's supposed to give them a good start in life, but instead feeds them harmful chemicals. It's also hard to believe that steps aren't being taken to remedy the situation!

Thanks for putting the word out to make parents aware!

Hey Michael,

Thanks for writing in again! I did link back to you back in Sept. '08- on my Link Love Post. You can find it at Link Love!

Shirley- Thank you so much for your support. This situation totally infuriates me. Our own FDA won't even protect our children!
Thanks again for posting!

Your article points out the need for an overhaul on the FDA, and other agencies that are not working for us. We need to make more products here in our own country not foreign bought poison.
More people need to be aware of these countries like China that are purposefully not following regulations.
