Sex Offenders, What Would You Do?

Ok, I know I am going to offend at least one person with what I am about to say, but I really don't care.

I have always told my family and close friends, that if someone EVER attempted to sexually assault any one of my children, I would be in prison, because I would kill them.

I still stand by that statement, and will to the day I am buried...(no pun intended)

My children are everything to me, and yes, I do believe in the death penalty as well, and no, I do not think our court system is fair... The american justice system is corrupt. I do have evidence of this, but that is another post entirely.

Back to the issue, Child Abuse and Sexual Abuse.

I was reading the news this morning to be greeted by the story of a father who came to his 17 year old daughters rescue in the middle of the night. She was on the verge of being attacked by a 52 year old man, that was naked except for a mask, latex gloves and had rope, condoms and a knife with him.

The man who broke in had served 10 years in prison for criminal confinement and sexual deviate conduct and was wanted in Boone County for failure to register as a sex offender. He was registered as a sex offender in Marion County. (Indiana)

When police arrived he was pronounced dead- seems to be of a heart attack. The father wrestled him to the hallway floor, and that is where they were found, with dad's arm around the suspect's neck. Go Dad!!!! I am glad the man is dead, although I wish it were from a bit more of a violent nature!

Paul Newman Has Passed

What was supposed to be a happy day, ended up being a sad day as well. September 26, 2008 - the day my daughter was born (one year ago), Paul Newman passed away at his home in Westport from cancer.

Paul Newman was definitely an icon, although he wouldn't be happy about being called that. He was handsome, courageous, and always stuck up for the underdog.

There really are no words to describe how the loss of Paul Newman will affect the world. He has donated all his profits from his Newman's Own empire to charities. This has totaled more than $175 million.

Godspeed Paul!

Melamine Is Still A Concern!

I posted this story in my dog food blog, but I believe it is worthy of this blog as well.

I want to get the word out about this obviously serious problem!

Back in March 2007 there was a massive dog food recall. It was because of Melamine.

Melamine is a chemical used in fertilizers, and was found to be in quite a few brands of dog food. Melamine is not safe for human consumption, let alone consumption by our dogs.

Quite a few dogs died because of this contamination. Melamine poisoning causes kidney stones and kidney failure. The root cause of this contamination?

Two companies in China were using melamine as a filler in a product that was used in dog food. This product was then shipped to the U.S. and used by the majority of the dog food manufacturers.

Now, fast forward to September 2008. Melamine is back in the news again, and guess why?
A Chinese milk product has been contaminated with melamine!

At the time of this printing, 4 babies have died because of this product. World wide, the major concern is for candies. A lot of countries import snacks and candies made from milk and or milk products produced in China.

So, beware! The melamine scare isn't over yet!

Gun Control?

This I am sure is going to piss off some people. But here are my feelings. I believe in the right to bear arms. I also believe there should be some sort of common sense involved in the people who do bear arms.

I don't believe that dumb asses should own guns, plain and simple. I was reading the news online and came across this story of a 2 year old who fatally shot himself in the eye, moments after his mother "warned him" not to touch the gun.

What mother in their right mind would allow a loaded gun in the same room with their child? Let alone on a freaking nightstand where it is in full view and access to him?!

I am sorry, but I believe the parents should be punished for this one, and thank goodness, they were arrested.

What are your opinions on this?

How Can A Parent To Harm Their Child?

I have seen more and more reports in the news, online and television, about parents harming their children.

Being a mother myself to two beautiful girls, I just can not understand this. I do understand getting angry, as this is just a fact of life. But what I don't understand is getting angry and taking it out on your children. Especially to the point of physical abuse.

Children are innocent creatures, they are brand new, and just figuring everything out. They look to their parents for guidance, safety, comfort, love, and nourishment.

Is it because I don't have a screw loose somewhere, is this why I can't understand it? Or is it that society is just changing, for the worse.

I remember as a child growing up, the worst thing around was abduction. I always told myself, if anyone ever tried to take me away, I would scream bloody murder, and let the person kill me right there. My reasoning? I wanted my parents to know exactly what happened, and that I did fight for my life.

I think it still is pretty good advice to give these days as well. The only catch? What if it is their parent that is harming them? What then?

These children have no idea, they think what their parents are doing to them is ok, even though it hurts. And you can't tell me that when a baby is found dead by the hands of its mother, that there were no signs. There were signs, everyone just chose to ignore them.

We as parents, better yet, as people, need to start taking responsibility for these signs. We need to do something about it. We need to drive the police nuts... Until they do something!

There was a local girl who was just killed in my area, initially they said she hung herself. She was only 11 years old.

What 11 year old could possibly hang themselves? Better yet, how could they even be thinking about that method of death? Turns out her family had been turned in several times to Social Services.

Long story short, her community failed to save her life. They should be ashamed of themselves for not pursuing it further, and this includes the social services department and police. They should have pushed the barriers down in order to save her.

All the signs were there!

And Still I Rise

And Still I Rise
Dr. Maya Angelou

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Word Of Mouth Marketing: Tell A Friend

I just received a comment, directing me to this site, Tell A Friend.

I think it is a good idea, but in my opinion does need a couple of tweaks for it to be very practical for bloggers and web designers.

It is convenient for blog readers, because they can send the post they are reading to any of their friends without leaving the post. These messages can go by way of email, IM, your blog (wordpress and blogger only at this point) or social site Facebook or Twitter.

Like I said the idea is there, but the only drawback I can find right now, is for the web owners/designers.

Anyone can get one of these widgets, even without signing up for an account. If you do sign up for an account, now here is the drawback, you cannot make a widget for any other site.

There is no option to add another site/blog to these widgets in order to customize them.

Maybe I am being dumb and missed it, but I don't think so!

Check it out for yourself, and get back to me. Let me know if I am wrong!

Demonstrator Spends 7 Days Behind Bars- For Breaking NO LAW!

Got online this morning to see the front page news of :

Demonstrator at state fair spends 7 days behind bars, but state officials can't find a law he broke

Seems that he was walking around the NYS Fair like this, with his pal right next to him. He never said a word to anyone. Apparently someone didn't appreciate it when he stood next to the Army recruiting table, and called the troopers on him.

NYS police arrested him on trespassing charges, but they have still not been able to find a law that he actually broke.

Our wonderful NYS taxes at work!

What do you guys think of this?

10 Years Ago The Home Run Record Was Broken!

I simply can't believe it has been 10 years since Mark McGwire broke the home run record!

I remember following the whole season on the edge of my seat. I couldn't wait to watch the next game to see what number we would get to, between Mark and Sammy.

It was the first year that I actually enjoyed the whole season, and I know it got a lot more people interested in baseball than ever before!

Baseball has always been a part of my life in some way or another. I recall growing up in Clinton, NY, next door to my grandmother, who used to sit on the steps of her farm house listening to the games on her transistor radio. I looked forward to sitting next to her, asking her questions about who that player was, and where they were playing.

I'm sure I must have drove her nuts, but she always answered me with a smile, and a hug.

After that, my brother was in the local Babe Ruth league. It is so funny to look back on the pictures of him. He is a big man now, over 6 foot tall, very athletic (runs every day). Back then he was such a scrawny little guy, who couldn't hit the ball to save his life!

Anyways, I always looked forward to watching his games, and following his "career" in baseball. He actually ended up becoming quite an accomplished pitcher thanks to the help of one of our dear family friends. Unfortunately he passed away while we were in high school from brain cancer.

His name was Shawn Grady. He passed away in 1991 from brain cancer 3 days before his 18th birthday.

My father is a general contractor, and was in the process of remodeling his bedroom for his "make a wish" dream at the time he passed.

I am crying as I write this...Shawn was such an inspiration to all of us, as he was going through his battle, he continued to play baseball, football and hockey.

I know his family misses him dearly, as our family does as well.

His mother Beverly and father, Phil set up the Shawn Grady Memorial Fund in Shawn's memory. The Shawn Grady Memorial Fund is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to helping local children and their families with life-threatening illnesses since 1991.

Back to my original reason to post:

Mark McGwire! I am sad to see he is no longer playing. I understand the controversy with the steroids, and am sad to see he may have been involved in this behavior. I do have to close this in saying that 1998 was my most memorable season so far in baseball. Thank you Mark!
